Short CV
Georgios Kavoulakis started his undergraduate studies at the Physics Department of the University of Crete and received his bachelor’s degree in 1990. He entered this department and graduated from it ranked first, receiving fellowships for all the four years of his studies.
He continued his studies at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, USA, where he received his master’s degree on physics in 1992, as well as his doctoral degree in 1996, under the supervision of Gordon Baym.
Then, he became a post-doctoral fellow at the Physics Department of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, USA (04/1996 – 12/1996), a post-doctoral fellow and Marie Curie fellow at NORDITA, Copenhagen, Denmark (04/1997 – 08/2000), a Göran Gustafsson fellow at the Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm, Sweden (09/2000 – 09/2001), and finally a post-doctoral fellow and then a «Docent» at Lund Institute of Technology, Lund, Sweden (09/2001 – 08/2007). Between 03/2008 – 02/2012 he was an associate professor at the TEI of Crete and ever since 2012 he was promoted to a professor, continuing also as a full professor at the Hellenic Mediterranean University (HMU).
Georgios Kavoulakis haw published roughly 70 publications, six of them with Ben Mottelson (Nobel prize in Phyics, 1974). He was the Chair of the “POLATOM” research network of the European Science Foundation, which included around 60 scientists from 16 countires of the European Union. He has organized 3 conferences, has given more than 10 invited talks and has refereed more than 150 publications. He has received funding from the Swedish Science Foundation (VR) and he was the principal investigator of a research proposal of the «Αrchimedes ΙΙΙ» action. He has supervised two doctoral students and a few more on their master’s and diploma thesis. Finaly, he served as the head of the department of Mechanical Engineering pf HMU for two years.
