Dimitris Al. Katsaprakakis is Mechanical Engineer, graduated from the National Technical University of Athens, School of Mechanical Engineering in 1997, and a PhD holder from the same School with subject “Maximisation of wind parks’ penetration in insular autonomous systems” (2007). From 2001 until 2010 he worked as a scientific contribution in a series of research projects in Wind Energy Lab, on topics relevant with R.E.S. and R.U.E. In 2008 he was a elected as an Assistant Professor at the Mechanical Engineering Department of the Technological Educational Institute of Crete, while in 2016 he was elected as Associate Professor at the same Department. He teaches at the Master Course “Energy System”, delivered in common by the same Department and the Department of Electrical Engineering.
Since December 2017 he serves as the Head of this Department.
Among his fields of expertise, the R.E.S. penetration in insular systems, the design and the development of hybrid power plants, the energy performance upgrade of buildings and infrastructure, the social and developmental extensions of R.E.S. projects, the Combined Heat and Power Cogeneration are included.
He has worked as the main researcher – consultant in a series of projects, in Greece and abroad (hybrid power plants, energy performance upgrade projects, C.H.P. projects etc). He is the writer of four books in Greek, while during 2020, his first book in English will be published. He is the main author of 24 articles in international scientific journals and he has participated in 31 articles in international and national conferences (25 as the main author). His scientific work is acknowledged with more than 650 citations (h-Index 13).
He is the scientifically responsible on behalf of HMU in the European Commission’s Secretariat on the initiative “Clean Energy for E.U. Islands”. He also represents H.M.U. in the United Nations Sustainable Development and Solutions Network.
He participates as an expert in the European Commission’s TAIEX workshops.
